What is Essential Nutrition? |

I have done my share of research on line in an effort to understand the basics of essential nutrition. It is important to me that my family maintain good health through good nutrition. I have learned that everyone needs these four basic nutrients: water, carbohydrates, proteins and fats. Essential nutrition also includes vitamins, minerals and other micronutrients.
Did you know the human body is made up of two-thirds water? It is essential nutrition, especially in warm climates, to keep hydrated. I make sure the kids and my husband are equipped with a water bottle each morning when they head out for the day. I am never without one myself!
My research taught me that carbohydrates supply the body with the energy it needs to function. I make sure my family gets essential nutrition by eating plenty of plant foods such as fruits, vegetables, peas and beans.
Protein is needed for growth and development. It creates energy and is used to make hormones, antibodies, enzymes and tissues. I have learned to make a complete protein by combining beans or brown rice with corn, nuts or seeds. My family loves it!
Finally fats are needed by the body just not in excess. In children they help with brain development. Throughout life it is essential nutrition for energy and growth. Fat is good in small amounts! |
