I have a friend who has a weight problem and wants to get pregnant. She was concerned about essential nutrition for the baby, and was told that someone with a weight problem needs to watch their diet even before thet conceive.

I did some research for her and was surprised to discover that this is not necessarily true. Weight loss is not really an issue. You need to eat plenty of good foods, including fats, as long as they are healthy fats.  The fats found in dairy products are perfect because dairy products are a nutritionally dense food. Eggs are another excellent source of fat for pregnant women. Fish, and fish eggs  are rich in essential nutrition as well. They effect your nervous system and can help you to keep a positive outlook and will also be of benefit to your baby when you do get pregnant.

Health food and nutritional supplements are vital if you plan on getting pregnant. You can begin a mild exercise program and cut out all the junk foods instead of cutting out fats if you are concerned about weight loss.

Obviously you need to consult your doctor and get a prenatal checkup before you start any program.
